OVER-THINKING #1
“You are your own worst enemy”
Here’s how it goes. You think about an event that took place in the past, mostly its an amazing memory. This amazing memory is now just a memory and you now have zero chances of reliving it due to some reason. You then realised that there are some things that you shouldn’t have done or should have done differently. This thought of regret gives rise to multiple different lines of thought connected to the same person, situation or time period.
Slowly and slowly you keep dwelling in deeper and deeper till the time you’re lying down in bed, tired of life and don’t feel like living anymore.
To those whom this happens on a daily basis, this is the exact meaning of “you are your own worst enemy”.
Also this isn’t the first time you’re going into the abyss. You’ve been there, multiple times, exploring different complex outcomes and idiosyncrasies of the same situation.
After all this, you have to get up to go to work but obviously you dont feel like. Your mind’s been shut. You can’t think clearly. You dont want to talk to anyone…just sit there in silence, thinking about those memories because this familiar pain gives you a feeling of false comfort.
So what do you do?
The only way to get rid of negative overthinking is to ACCEPT the fact that something happened or that something is happening that you are or were afraid of. I could just write down thousands of tips and tricks but all of them are just designed to make you live in denial, which to me is not living at all. They WILL fail at one point of time. So..what do you do?
The two most important things to understand here are that -
1)Every feeling has a particular breathing pattern and posture
2) Look at the MACRO instead of the MICRO
When you feel sad, remembering those “amazing” memories you’ll realise that your body attains a particular shape and your breathing changes. Each feeling in our system is associated with a particular body posture and breathing pattern. These postures arent very explicit but are a series of small micro postures which affect different parts of the body in a very minimalistic manner.
The amazing thing is that as soon as you change your posture and breathing pattern, it’ll become really easy to get out of the abyss.
This is partly why people say that you should exercise when you’re in a bad mood.
This although is still just a trick which you can use if the situation becomes really bad.
Looking at the MACRO.
The MACRO is something wonderful. Everything is great if you look at it from the MACRO point of view.
What this basically means is that you should look at situations, not at a particular time but over a period of time. If you look at things which are happening right now and they’re not satisfactory, surely you’ll dwelve deeper in and find yourself lost once again.
The trick is to assess life over a large period of time.
For ex. Let’s say that there is a person named A and he loves a person named B. They both enter into a relationship and it’s. going great.
Suddenly one day B doesnt reply to A’s texts or their “meeting” doesn’t end on a very satisfactory note. What does A do? He over-thinks, goes deeper and deeper into it, before he knows it he starts imagining stuff like “Is it gonna end so soon?” and then he’s gone for a few days.
What should A do?
A should look at the macro. He should realise that his relationship is going great and that just one missing text or unsatisfactory meetup can do nothing to disrupt it.
Looking at the Macro is a wonderful thing.
If life doesn’t feel fine at one point of time, assess the whole day. If the day doesn’t feel allright, assess the whole week.
As this goes on and on, you’ll start realising how great it actually is and that you’re just thinking a lot for no reason at all.
If life doesnt feel right, look at the MACRO, im sure it’ll turn out just fine.
Feel free to message me for any suggestions/requests.
P.s. I know that we medi-ites look down upon relationship examples but I just had to use this one as it fits best.
